When Gerda travels to The Kingdom of Snow, she meets creatures who move in different ways.

Can you create a story using movement words to describe different creatures and magical lands?

1. Watch Gerda’s journey through The Kingdom of Snow and see the different characters that she meets.

2. The Snowflakes (Watch The Snowflakes on BBC iPlayer here between 1:00:15-1:02:21) use lots of circles and turns or pirouettes to show us the flurrying blizzard quality of snow. Write down as many different words as you can to describe their movements. (We’ve put down some of our ideas to get you started!)

Snowflakes: Spinning, Swirling, Spiraling...

3. The Snow Wolves (Watch The Snow Wolves on BBC iPlayer here between 1:02:22-1:03:12) travel low to the ground, bending their knees in pliés, to show us they are sneaky and hunting. Write down as many different words as you can to describe their movements.

Snow Wolves: Creeping, Sneaking, Prowling...

4. The Jack Frosts (Watch The Jack Frost on BBC iPlayer here between 1:02:22-1:03:12) do lots of reaches and jumps or jetés, which make it look as if they are flying. Write down as many different words as you can to describe their movements.

Jack Frosts: Exploding, Darting, Vaulting...

5. Now use these words to create a short story about a journey through three magical lands, or with three different creatures who move in different ways.
