We began developing a programme of dance health classes in 2015, and with a five-year sponsorship commitment of support from Baillie Gifford in 2018, this programme of work is now a series of specialist classes helping more people living with life-changing neurological conditions.
SB Health encompasses Dance for Parkinson’s Scotland (DPS), Time to Dance (dementia), and Elevate (multiple sclerosis). The aim is to improve physical, mental and social wellbeing for individuals and carers coping with the day to day impact of the above conditions. Classes follow a two part structure — a physical class followed by a social café, providing a sense of community and creating genuine connections amongst participants.
The sessions have continued throughout the 2020/21 pandemic, with delivery taking place online as a priority above creation of new artistic content. Baillie Gifford’s support throughout this ensured participants were able to continue with their weekly classes without any disruption — vitally important in a time of such uncertainty. Our dance health programme is viewed as an antidote to loneliness and a lifeline for many.
The dance health classes have truly become a shining light for our participants, and we are delighted that Baillie Gifford continues to support the neurological aspect of our dance health programme.
