Coronavirus update: Scottish Ballet is prioritising the health and wellbeing of the company at this challenging time for all of us. Please click here for the latest update on cancellations.

Our March 2019 instalment of In Company explored ‘Dance Health: on stage and beyond’. Guests heard from our speakers, Sam Pattman, Sponsorship Manager at Baillie Gifford, our Dance Health Partner, and Scottish Ballet’s inhouse physiotherapist, Martin Lanfear.

With an organisational focus on the health and wellbeing of their employees, Baillie Gifford support Scottish Ballet’s pioneering Dance Health programme alongside the rehabilitation of their sponsored dancers. The nurturing programme Scottish Ballet provides for the dancers is a natural extension and sponsorship fit.

Martin spoke about his role in supporting our dancers on and off stage, and what makes being a physiotherapist at a ballet company different from a sports environment. By developing role-specific training programmes and monitoring the dancers’ strength, sleep, and general wellbeing, Martin is able to predict when injury may occur with the aim of prevention.

Our dance health partnership with Baillie Gifford ensures wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do at Scottish Ballet.
