The primary school strand of Safe to Be Me™ explores the core themes through performance and a full-day dance workshop.

The day begins with a performance specially choreographed by Scottish Ballet’s Engagement team. Working with Scotland’s most experienced dance practitioners, the pupils then take part in creative dance tasks exploring identity, respect, allyship, family diversity, and LGBTQ+ communities, to create their own Safe to Be Me™ performance and support them to be safe and confident in who they are.

After an initial pilot project in Glasgow and Perth in 2019, Safe to Be Me™ has toured to Highland schools in Fort William, Inverness, and Aviemore and to schools in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Paisley, East Renfrewshire, Stirling and Inverclyde. The response to the project has been exceptional and the Safe to Be Me™ team has worked in person with over 1400 Primary 6 and 7 pupils across Scotland.
