Joel is a white man with light brown hair looking at the camera

Joined Scottish Ballet: 2022

Training: Central School of Ballet

During a dress rehearsal of Coppélia I forgot to put on the black undergarments for the clone costume, effectively leading to me dance in just a mesh suit.

What’s your favourite place in Scotland?
The Trossachs and Loch Lomond National Park because it has beautiful scenery and an interesting history.

What do you like to do on your days off?
I love to cook and catch up with my family

What’s your hype song?
All I Know by The Weekend.

What’s the funniest thing that’s happened on stage/in the studio?
During a dress rehearsal of Coppélia I forgot to put on the black undergarments for the clone costume, effectively leading to me dance in just a mesh suit.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
I would tell him to start dancing a bit younger and I’m still quite young, so I tell myself to find something positive in everyday life.

What makes you smile?
Funny cat videos.

What’s your favourite book?
Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. I like that it tells a candid story of Watanabe’s life, making darker moments seem strangely beautiful.

What’s your favourite ballet to watch?
Balanchine’s Serenade. The music by Tchaikovsky is beautiful – Op. 48 is very uplifting.

Repertoire Highlights: The Nutcracker, Coppélia, The Scandal at Mayerling, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Snow Queen
