Scottish Ballet and YDance are offering young choreographers a chance to explore and develop their creative voices in Hothouse.
Hothouse
Hothouse is a FREE choreographic training programme for dancers aged 14 – 21. The programme is run by YDance in partnership with Scottish Ballet and regional partners in Edinburgh, Dundee, and Aberdeen. Hothouse is designed to inspire and develop the next generation of choreographers from or living in Scotland.
Hothouse will help you develop by:
- Developing your choreographic skills and knowledge
- Exposing you to positive role models within the industry
- Encouraging your own independent creative voice and unique style
- Supporting you as young emerging artist to create a piece for performance (Level 2 – IGNITE only)
Hothouse involves two levels:
Level 1 – SPARK
An inspirational day where young people aged 14 – 21 can develop their knowledge and choreographic skills. Level 1 - SPARK will take place at the following locations on the below dates.
Aberdeen - Saturday 5 October 2019
10am – 4pm
Location: Citymoves Dance Agency
Dundee - Saturday 19 October 2019
10am – 5pm
Location: Scottish Dance Theatre
Edinburgh - Sunday 10 November 2019
10am – 4pm
Location: Dance Base
Glasgow - Sunday 17 November 2019
10am – 4.30pm
Location: Scottish Ballet
Two participants from each regional Level 1 - SPARK will be selected to move on to Level 2 - IGNITE.
Level 2 – IGNITE
January – July 2020

Level 2 supports young choreographers selected from Level 1 to develop a new work for performance. Through a programme of skills development weekends and mentoring, participants will gain knowledge and confidence to develop their own work, in their community, mentored by staff from YDance and Scottish Ballet.
