JOIN US FOR A CREATIVE FESTIVAL OF DANCE TO CELEBRATE DIVERSITY
Safe to Be Me™ Festival is an opportunity for schools and young people aged 10-23 to explore their identities through creative, interactive experiences and digital dance workshops, running 10-31 May 2021.
Safe to Be Me™ supports young people to feel safe and confident in who they are. During the three-week digital festival, sponsored by Aberdeen Standard Investments, young people will address topics such as homophobia, racism, ableism, transphobia, bigotry and family diversity (in line with key Scottish Government targets).
- Dance workshops will introduce the core project themes and teach movement and expression. The young people will work creatively with experienced dance practitioners exploring: ethnicity, family makeup, LGBTQ and disability.
- Opportunities to hear from inspiring professional dancers from a wide range of backgrounds sharing their experiences in the professional world of dance.
- Exciting interactive digital experiences including filmmaking workshops and a filmmaking challenge, empowering young people with the skills to create and express themselves through film.
- Dance and literacy workshops exploring poetry and creative expression.
Having already engaged over 1,200 young people in primary schools across Scotland, we're excited to bring Safe to Be Me™ to a digital platform in 2021 and support more young people to explore diversity and inclusion.
