Coronavirus update: Scottish Ballet is prioritising the health and wellbeing of the company at this challenging time for all of us. Please click here for the latest update on cancellations.
The Close project provides a first time ballet experience for young adults delivered in partnership with The Kibble Care and Education Centre and Gorgie Mills Special School.
This vital education project provides at-risk young people with a new and enriching cultural experience. Our participants are in special unit schools because they have faced adversity during childhood.
Through artistic projects inspired by contemporary themes based on Scottish Ballet's productions, individuals are supported to explore their creativity and develop teamwork skills.

‘I felt free in the environment to explore my creativity’The Close participant, March 2019
Within a week of attending the theatre as VIP guests, they are invited to take part in creative dance and music workshops.
Participants have the opportunity to explore key themes and issues they have identified from the production and also receive a post-show talk with Scottish Ballet's Artistic Director Christopher Hampson and a selection of our dancers.
The Close aims to empower participants by welcoming their creative ideas and building their confidence, communication, self-expression and creative skills, as well as providing a cultural and social education, and enriching new experiences.
‘For many of the pupils, this experience was completely out of their comfort zone. They were introduced to dance and movement in an exciting but safe way. They were encouraged to explore their creativity and work as part of a team.’The Kibble Care and Education Centre staff member, March 2019
The Close has received funding from; The Gannochy Trust, The Gordon Fraser Charitable Trust, The Barcapel Foundation and Hugh Fraser Foundation - a huge thank you to all of our supporters.
