Scottish Ballet, English National Ballet and National Dance Company Wales collaborated on Dancing Parallel, a national dance film and performance project for young people in Aberdeen, London and Cardiff.

Teenagers aged 14–18 from these three cities explored the worlds of dance and parkour, and through daily practical sessions, had the opportunity to create their own work incorporating the contrasting genres of contemporary dance, ballet and parkour.

The first sessions took place in Aberdeen (July 2011) and Cardiff (October 2011), with the final sessions taking place in London in April 2012.

Dance filmmaker Nic Sandiland created a work drawing together site-specific performances by the participants and exploring the contrasting environments of their cities. This film was be screened at performances of Dance GB by Scottish Ballet, English National Ballet and National Dance Company Wales in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
