Inclusive performances are designed for people with a range of additional support needs and their families.

Our aim is to create a welcoming atmosphere where all can feel comfortable and enjoy the magic of dance.

BEFORE THE SHOW

Upon arrival at the theatre, audiences are welcomed in the foyer by dancers in costume and the Scottish Ballet engagement team. Audiences can use this time to get to know the dancers and have a photo taken before following them into the auditorium.

Once settled in their seat, audiences can take a few minutes to relax and read through a free information sheet with introductions to the characters and creative team.

DURING THE SHOW

Moments before the show commences, a member of the engagement team will enter the stage to introduce the story and a few of the key characters from the performance.

Throughout the performance, the auditorium lighting will remain on and the content of the production is modified to reduce unexpected loud noises and strong lighting effects.

You can expect a welcoming and relaxed attitude to noise and movement from the audience.

There is also a quiet space available outside the auditorium with a live relay of the performance for all those who need to move to a different space.

During a short interval, the engagement team will run an interactive activity for the audience with the Scottish Ballet Orchestra.

The Cinderella inclusive performance lasts approximately 1 hour including interval.

'Thank you so much for putting on an inclusive performance of The Nutcracker. It is the first time we have been to the theatre and not worried about making noise, getting up, banging about etc. My son as high functioning autism and often finds situations worry and needs to move or bounce. He was transfixed by the ballet and loved being able to see the orchestra. It was amazing and I was so pleased they have a chance to experience it. Thank you.'
