SCOTTISH BALLET ANNOUNCES 2018 SEASON
Get ready for a year spent at all ends of the globe. We've just announced our full schedule of main events for 2018 and it's going to be a treat!
Matthew Bourne’s Highland Fling dances its way to the Scottish Islands
Following performances in Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scottish Ballet we'll be taking this 'romantic wee ballet' to Shetland, Orkney, Lewis and Argyll. Sponsors Loganair will fly the dancers and crew to the islands, whilst Calmac will transport the set and cosutmes.
This is the first time Scottish Ballet has toured a full-scale production to such remote locations, where the company will turn local sports complexes and town halls into full scale theatres for the performances, giving regional audiences the exact same experience as those in the city.
Highland Fling was originally produced in 1994 by Olivier Award-winner Sir Matthew Bourne. Presented exclusively by Scottish Ballet, the production is a wonderfully imaginative re-working of the classic romantic ballet La Sylphide with a wickedly wry Scots twist and hilarity mixed with classical ballet. In addition, Scottish Ballet is the only company to be given the rights to recreate any of Matthew Bourne’s works.
Summer 2018: SB at Glasgow 2018 Euro Championships
Scottish Ballet will collaborate with YDance to create an intergenerational dance festival that will involve community dancers aged from 15 to 70. Scottish Ballet’s Youth Exchange and Elders Company will be involved alongside National Youth Dance Scotland and performances will take place in Glasgow during August as part of the Glasgow 2018 European Championships Festival.
