Scottish Ballet has been delivering Dance for Parkinson’s Scotland since 2015 and dementia-friendly, Time to Dance sessions since 2017. In 2018, our Engagement team started the process of designing a dance programme for people living with Multiple Sclerosis in Scotland.

As part of our existing pilot programme, the dance health team will visit Orkney for one week in September to work with people living with MS, their friends, family and carers.

Our dance health team visited Orkney earlier this month to meet with local staff from NHS, MS Society, MS Therapy Centre, and the Pickaquoy Centre, all of whom will partner with us to deliver these taster classes.

Orkney has the highest prevalence of MS in the world, with an estimated 1 in 300 people at risk of developing the neurological condition, which can affect different areas of the brain and spinal cord.

Scottish Ballet is hugely grateful to RS MacDonald Charitable Trust for supporting two of our dance health projects. Without this special 40th anniversary award it would not have been possible to pilot Elevate.
