Vintage style may be de rigueur, but Scottish Ballet’s forthcoming costume sale brings a whole new meaning to second hand wonderland. Tutus sprinkled in sparkle, flowing skirts, shirts and dresses that scream with stage presence - and even giant cuddly Christmas time snowmen each have their own tales to tell of time spent in the spotlight.
As Scottish Ballet’s dancers prepare to pack their pointe shoes and jetté across the river Clyde to a brand new purpose-built home as part of the Tramway Arts complex next Spring, the Company is hosting the kind of final clear out sale that would put any high street sale to shame.
For those that missed out on a world of ballet goodies at last year's sale, at which over £80,000 was raised to support the Company, there will be an exclusive opportunity to purchase a whole new range of costumes and memorabilia this October as Scottish Ballet opens its doors once more to members of the public. From 10am – 5pm on Saturday 26 October, costumes, including assorted headdresses and accessories, spanning around 30 years of Scottish Ballet history will be available to purchase.
And with Halloween just around the corner where better to find a trick to treat yourself to. Costumes on sale will include the ‘Ooh la la’ French Mademoiselles from Offenbach as well as some fuzzy winter wonders from the Company’s Christmas treat, The Snowman.
Ballet fans will also have the opportunity to pick up other unique or historical pieces of Scottish Ballet memorabilia at a special Ballet Bric-a-Brac stall selling archive posters, programmes, white canvas flat pumps and even satin pointe shoes.
