Who is in the enchanted forest?

Find out about the other fairytale characters who appear in The Sleeping Beauty.

The Enchanted Forest in Act II is full of fairytale characters that you may recognise from other classic stories. When the Bluebird guides the Prince through the forest, he meets Snow White, Belle (from Beauty and the Beast), Cinderella, and Red Riding Hood, who are lost in the forest looking for their own happy ending.

Red Riding Hood is laying out her picnic in the centre of the forest when suddenly the wolf startles her. She runs away as the wolf chases her, and the Prince, who is hunting, chases the wolf with his rifle.

Snow White is hiding in the forest from the wicked queen, Belle is running through the forest to escape from the beast, and Cinderella, running away from the ball as the clock strikes midnight, appears wearing only one shoe.

They arrive together at the hothouse where Aurora is sleeping. After breaking into the room, the Prince kisses her, breaking the curse.

The four suitors who have been guarding Aurora also awaken, and the Bluebird discovers the Songbird Fairy (who has been captured by Pina and Lucinda) and releases her from her cage. The four suitors are enraptured by the fairytale maidens and introduce themselves, escorting them from the room to leave Aurora with her own true love, the brave Prince who has restored her to life with his kiss.

The fairytale characters appear again in Act 3 as guests at the wedding reception. 100 years have passed and everyone is in costumes of the 1940s. The fairytale character costumes still have the special features of each character: Red Riding Hood wears a chic red hooded gown, Snow White is wearing a hat with an apple on top, and Cinderella has a 40s style hat in the shape of a shoe.
