Scottish Ballet aims to awaken interest, ignite passion and foster talent by providing a comprehensive access and participation programme, which raises awareness and appreciation of Scottish Ballet and its artistic direction, flies the flag for ballet as a contemporary art form and enhances the lives and learning of people of all ages and abilities.
Dance empowers people, the act of dancing and an understanding of how it changes lives as well as an idea of the technical demands it makes on the body and appreciation of choreographic skills at any level, from a simple introductory workshop through to vocational training, mean that participation is a necessary and valuable conduit.
Information and knowledge about dance and about Scottish Ballet itself increase awareness and understanding of the work of the Company thus developing new audiences and nurturing existing ones by enriching their experience. Sharing specialist information with groups of people appropriate to specific elements of productions or the work of the Company open doors for a wide range of people who would not otherwise access dance.
The education team takes a range of work out to people of all ages and backgrounds (12,000 people benefited from our education work in 2006) including creative dance workshops to primary school children, illustrated talks to secondary school pupils, and we can even bring talks into the workplace!
