Top ‘Dance Oscars’ Award
24 January 2008
Scottish Ballet has just scooped a top award at the Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards, the Oscars of the UK dance world.
The ceremony, held at the Royal Opera House on Tuesday 22 January, saw the Company awarded the Critics’ Circle National Dance Award Company Prize for Outstanding Repertoire (Classical). Founded in 1999, the awards have rapidly become the dance event of the year, drawing fierce competition from the very best of dance and ballet talent in the UK – this year Scottish Ballet fended off competition from both The Royal Ballet and Bolshoi Ballet companies.
Artistic Director, Ashley Page was absolutely delighted that the Company has received this recognition, saying “Our repertoire is developing all the time, and we have been fortunate enough to work with some outstanding choreographers and teachers – that kind of interaction is invaluable.”
