The Big Dance Schools Pledge will be trying to break a world record on 18 May 2012, the same day that the Olympic Torch arrives in the UK, and all schools are invited to take part.

The Schools Pledge is in two parts

- Learn the choreography and take part in a world record attempt for the Largest Dance Routine – Multi-venue at 1pm on 18 May 2012
- Undertake to do an additional 20 minutes of dance a day during Big Dance week (7-15 July 2012)

The Choreography
Wayne McGregor, Artistic Director of Wayne McGregor | Random Dance and Resident Choreographer at the Royal Ballet, will create the 5 minute choreography for the world record attempt, which can be dowloaded from http://www.bigdance2012.com.

The World Record
The Big Dance are working with the British Council to promote the Schools Pledge to schools across the world to beat the record for The Largest Dance Routine – Multi Venue.

At 13:00 (British Summer Time – GMT +1) on 18 May 2012, schools around the world will go to their school halls, playgrounds, playing fields or to public spaces and perform the choreography. The current record is held by the Netherlands with 264,188 people and 1,472 locations.

For details on what you need to do to verify the world record, click here.

Even if you can’t take part in the world record, please join us on 18 May as there will be a participation certificate to download for all schools that take part.

As part of Big Dance week, Scottish Ballet will be running a summer school. Full details of this will be announced soon.
