In association with The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama
The first of its kind in the UK, and the only vocational course offered jointly by a conservatoire and a professional ballet company.
Delivered over one year, this course provides intensive high-level training, experience and development for a professional career as a pianist for dance. Students have access to a team of expert mentors from both the RSAMD and Scottish Ballet. At the RSAMD, students have lessons in piano and accompaniment techniques as well as improvisational sessions. The other elements of the course are delivered by Scottish Ballet and include observation of, and practical experience in all the Company’s activities, classes, and rehearsals. This involves working with the Company’s Artistic Director Ashley Page, the Ballet Staff, Company Pianist, Resident Conductor and the Head of the Associate Programme.
Applicants to the course should already possess an Honours degree in musical performance as well as the ability to improvise in a variety of styles and have a sound level of musical and technical expertise as a pianist. Some experience in playing for ballet/dance is desirable but not essential.
A scholarship provided by the Musicians Benevolent Fund towards study on this course may be available.
Those wishing to apply should contact Registry at the RSAMD for details.
