| Thinking about a Theme |
Things to think about when choosing a theme for a ballet.Inspiration - what do you want to say, what is your theme, what is your starting point? Architecture, issue based, music, visual image, theoretical e.g. effort, dynamic. What dance medium are you working in or do you want to use a hybrid of styles (e.g. intercultural work)? What are the fundamentals of the style you are working in that you want to show in your work? Development - have you seen something in another work or your own past works that you want to develop? What is the space/environment in which you will perform the work and how does this impact on what you create? - e.g. a site specific work. Is the dance set or improvised? If the dance is improvised what are the rules around the improvisation? |
